At last night's debate, John McCain had this to say about solving fixing entitlement programs in the United States: "Social Security is not that tough. We know what the problems are, my friends, and we know what the fixes are. We've got to sit down together across the table. It's been done before."
Does John McCain think we're stupid?
If fixing Social Security is "not that tough," and "we know what the fixes are," then why haven't we fixed it yet?
If "we know what the fixes are," then why doesn't McCain tell us what they are?
Oh, wait, he did mention one thing... He wants to let people take part of their social security taxes and put it into a private investment account. Does McCain think we're stupid enough to believe that taking money out out of the social security system for working people will prevent it from going into the red, when over $40 billion in annual payments need to keep being made to the millions of people who are already retired or disabled?
Now that I think of it, he did mention one more thing... "My friends, we are not going to be able to provide the same benefit for present-day workers that we are going -- that present-day retirees have today."
John McCain doesn't really want to fix Social Security. He wants to break it.
